The Second Line

Here's to a big ole' TGIfreakingF! Talk about a week of tested faith and patience. Things really started looking up on Thursday as Scarlett slept until 8am and I had a great day with my mama friends…I love them, so much! Joel even came home and took Scarlett on his 4 mile run in the BOB and I couldn't have been happier to get a little break. I cleaned those dishes I talked about and called a friend at the same time. Pure bliss that was.

Okay, but let's be honest, this is the time of the year that makes me miss my Big Easy city SO much that it hurts. I'm going to have to limit my logins on Facebook or else I may get too sad. I love Mardi Gras. I grew up doing Mardi Gras with my family and we camped out ALL weekend for it in my parents vintage RV. My ladder was always set up in the front row and I came home with loads of beads, cups,  moon pies, stuffed animals, which all reeked of beer. But, what 6 year old knows the difference, it's the amount that counts. My poor parents, they probably accidentally dropped a few bags on the way back to the RV. As I got older I made sure I got the front row spot at the Grand Marshall stage so I could see Britney Spears, Frankie Muniz, Marissa Tomei, and many many more! I always enjoyed watching my brother march with his high school band, it was my favorite to scream out DAVEY so loud that I surely embarrassed him.
I know I said last year that Scarlett and I would be at Mardi Gras this year, and we could have, but I just don't think we were ready to commit to such a long day while she is still so little. Next year, you better believe I'll have my girl dressed in purple, green, and gold to the max! This coming FAT Tuesday I'll be sharing my home decor, because I did get all festive this year and yes all three of us have Mardi Gras apparel we'd like to show off :)
So, all weekend we'll be picking up the handkerchief's and second lining in the house to celebrate Mardi Gras!

My Mardi Gras photos throughout the years post HERE . Last years post HERE

PS… I'd LOVE to make my chalk art above into a free download and offer it here on the blog, anyone know what program or site I use to do that? I know I've got some Louisiana readers who may want this as a desktop or iPhone wallpaper :)

Happy Friday friends!! Thanks for sticking with me this week and sending lots of sweet thoughts my way. Lurve you guys! Another PS- once again, my half birthday is skipped this year thank you leap year, but don't you worry that won't stop me from having a glass or two of wine to celebrate 25 and half years :)

  1. I know that if you have a tablet (like walcom), you could just use the photo and clean it up on photoshop :D. I swear I'd seen a tutorial on this before! I'll look!

Trust me I rep my Maryland heritage every chance I get but there is just something SO magical about NOLA and this time of year! Can't wait to see your home decor!!! ox

  5. We have yet to have any King Cake this year! I should probably pick that up for the weekend! :) If you figure out how to make this a downloadable file, let me know! There's some stuff I'm working on that I want to be able to make for others to down load as well. If I figure it out before I'll let you know. I haven't tried it yet but, what about Google docs? I'm not familiar with them but, that's one thing I'm going to be looking into.

  7. I have never been to Mardi Gras, but years ago we had a co-worker that worked remotely out of Gulfport and she would send us a King Cake every year which was a lot of fun. I am always looking for new chalkboard designs, and I loved your Mardi Gras one, and the Valentine's Day one from the other day. So I would be interested if you posted them, but am totally not tech savy :)
